چکیده

Compression arthrodesis of the knee was first described by Key (1932) and interest in the method was revived by Charnley (1948) whose clinical experiences led him to believe that osseous union could be present four weeks after operation. This has been doubted and it is generally believed that the best that can be expected at this stage is an extremely close fibrous union which later becomes converted into bone. The early rigidity of this arthrodesis can be explained mechanically because the closely applied flat surfaces of the arthrodesis, even

Failure analysis of knee arthrodesis with the WichitaFusion Nail.

Arthrodesis is a salvage procedure for failed total knee arthroplasty with the intent to create a stable, pain-free limb on which to ambulate or transfer. For many patients, the alternative to arthrodesis may be an above-knee amputation. Available techniques for knee arthrodesis include compression plating, external fixators, and intramedullary fixation. The purpose of this study was to report ...

Supracondylar Osteotomy in Valgus Knee: Angle Blade Plate Versus Locking Compression Plate

Background: There are few studies comparing the biomechanical properties of angled blade plate and locking compression plates in supracondylar osteotomy. In the current randomized study, we prospectively compared the clinical and radiological outcomes of supracondylar osteotomy using these two plates. Methods: Forty patients with valgus knee malalignment were randomly assigned to two equal nu...

A study of the end-results of compression arthrodesis of the knee.

This paper is a review of the results of compression arthrodesis of the knee performed during the ten-year period from 1946 to 1956. It was decided to exclude three cases of Charcot’s disease because this condition seems to offer special difficulties unrelated to the general problem of osseous union. The documents of 171 adult cases were available for study, and it is interesting to record imme...

[A case of melorheostosis].

A patient with melorheostosis of the right lower limb is described with the clinical findings and radiographic appearances which include angiographs and microradiographs. Tissue was taken from the knee joint at the time of arthrodesis and examined by histological, histochemical and biomechanical techniques. It is concluded that the bone in melorheostosis is not different from normal bone.
